The HAPPENINGS are BACK!
- October 8 – Charles & John Yates – A Place and its People:1896 to the present! Seven generations of life along the southwest shore of Grand Lake, featuring an audio of Edith Ward sharing the Tales as she lived them. Don’t miss this! At the Community House in Grand Lake Town Park. 6:30 to 7:30 pm
- As always, these are FREE events, but we appreciate your donations to support the continuing enhancement of the Cottage Court History Park, including not just the Museum, but the Eslick Store Welcome Center and the Park gathering space to include a pavilion, Clyde’s shed, tables and fencing. Dessert will be served along with some terrific history!

Grand Lake businesses recognized for preserving the town’s historic character
On July 9, 2024 the third Grand Lake Recognition Awards with four plaques recognizing local buildings were presented at our annual meeting.
Sue Luton and other members of the library district, representing the Juniper Library, received the Preservation Plaque. This plaque recognizes a local Grand Lake Building that has preserved the character of the town.
Four other local businesses were presented with Historic Site Plaques. These businesses were:
Rockies represented by Jackie and Mike Tompkins;
Mountain Lake Properties represented by Donna and Scott Ready
Ceaira’s Sweet Shop represented by Ceaira Downing.
The Historic Rapids Lodge and Restaurant also received an award but representatives were not at the meeting.
The plaques will be displayed on the exterior of each of these buildings for visitors and locals to learn more about the historical significance of Grand Lake.
On July 12, 2023 the second Grand Lake Recognition Awards with five plaques recognizing local buildings were presented at our annual meeting.
Alan Funk, representing the Grand Lake Hardware store, received the Preservation Plaque. This plaque recognizes a local Grand Lake Building that has preserved the character of the town.
Four other local businesses were presented with Historic Site Plaques. These were: the Grand Lake Community House, represented by the Mayor Steve Kudron; the Lariat, represented by owner Dustin Barnes; Bob Scott’s Authentic Indian Jewelry, represented by owner Bob Scott and Mine Design Jewelry, owned by Dorothy Reimer, who could not attend.
The plaques will be displayed on the exterior of each of these buildings for visitors and locals to learn more about the historical significance of Grand Lake.
On June 8, 2022 the first Grand Lake Recognition Awards were presented at our annual meeting.
Recognition plaques, brass with black raised lettering and information about a building’s history were given: to Humphreys Store, represented by John Akolt; to Grand Lake Mercantile, owner Elmer Lanzi not in attendance; to Sagebrush BBQ & Grill, owners Dave and Brenda Freeman not in attendance; and to Kirk’s Fly Shop represented by owner Gary Bien who also accepted a second recognition for his preservation efforts to restore the original vertical log siding and other features of the original building.
